Now let's go back to the analogy of the iron filings for a minute because it's an analogy in this work for a reason.
Iron has this feature: it melts and becomes solid when it gets hot and is allowed to cool. Iron can take the form of a solid mass instead of iron filings. This is what you're looking for in the work. Introspection causes a certain kind of inner friction. It's only when you create a certain amount of friction in your life, a certain amount of heat in those iron filings, that you get to the point where it then crystallizes or solidifies. How do we get enough friction?
This is an important question because usually, when people start to face who they are or what they’re like, they seek comfort. They want to avoid that feeling because it’s uncomfortable.
Personal development is very challenging, very facing. Most people will start a personal development journey, and when they get the first glimpse of what they’re really like, they will back away from it, run away from it, or create a slew of new lies to say it's not true.
The idea of this kind of friction in oneself is to fuse those iron filings into a single whole. That heat is generated through honest introspection. The kind of introspection where you will not face away from what you see; you will not look away from what you see; you will keep that fire going until it becomes something you can work with.
