Now, let's begin with a question about personality. And that is, what is the point? What is the Creational need to endow humans with a personality, or at least the ability to develop one? Does it serve a purpose? In some esoteric schools (or so-called “esoteric,” anyway,) there is a heavy emphasis on eliminating one’s personality, which doesn’t make any sense because what ends up happening is that everyone in the school adopts a personality trait of having no personality, or at least the illusion of such. It’s pretty absurd when you think about it. 

The Eminent Way is different. In the beginning, students are encouraged to develop great versatility in their personalities. For example, if called upon to do so, could you speak to a group of generals? Could you write a love poem? Could you speak intelligently (or at least convincingly) about a work of art? Could you defend yourself if the need arose? How about mathematics? Astronomy? Or music? In other words, how well-rounded are you? How far does your education extend? Not a college education, per se, but if you’ve not developed the habit of always seeking to learn something new, you’re robbing your future self of many development opportunities.

The function of the personality is to serve as a source of fuel for one’s soul or essence (as it is sometimes called). The various aspects of one’s personality are stored in the five centers of the psychological body of a person. These five centers are called the thinking, moving, instinctive, emotional, and sexual centers, and they serve as conductors of force between the body, soul, and spirit through their ability to replay impressions received in the physical world. For, as discussed elsewhere, impressions are also known as the third food, the first two being the physical food we eat and the air we breathe.

Thus, the real question is not whether to have a personality but what can be done with it, and how is it ‘digested’ to nourish the soul's vitality.

This is not to say that all personality traits are appropriate because there are obviously pleasant personalities, egotistical personalities, and everything else in between. But think, if Creation doesn't want an individualized and personal return on its investment, then Creation would have stopped evolution at either the rock or the animal. For humans to have been designed to have that permanent line connection says that there is a need for an individual flavored response, which is what personality is to do with.

Let me share an analogy with you. Have you ever taken an empty bottle and blown into it in a certain way, which creates a hollow humming sound? And then you add a little bit more water to it, making a slightly different pitch; a little less, and the sound is deeper, and so on.

This is, this is very much akin to what personality is.

From this standpoint, it concerns a person's inner content. Now, the inner content itself would be known as the soul. The amount of fluid or the shape of the bottle determines the sound it makes. The personality is the sound itself. When it gets blown into, it makes a specific noise around it. That's probably one of the best analogies for personality; it's the radiation of one's essence mixed with one's experience. It has a specific frequency.

Another analogy: You cook a meal in your kitchen, which creates a particular smell, yes? Now the smell isn't the meal itself. When you cook a meal, the smell is a symptom thereof. You see, the meal is the soul. That's the part that creation wants back – that soul. 

For most people, I would say the smell doesn't match what was cooked; the essence is inauthentic – it’s a lie. It’s like cooking pasta, and the room smells like bacon. Now how do you explain that? The way I would explain such a thing is that they picked up the bacon odor from everything else around them, but it’s not really what they are.

And did you know that if you take a person, stand them in the middle of the room, move all their personality to one side (possible), and deal with their essence alone, most will act like babies, like children? They can speak but can't reason; they can't function as normal adults. You see, they don't have a lot of content because this is what the personality was supposed to do – offer stock, content, and flavor to one’s authentic expression.

So you grow up through life, you start as a baby, then a toddler, a teenager, and once you pass from the teenage stage, right around 12 to 14 years old, you will have acquired a great deal of personality. At least, this is how it's naturally supposed to work. You will have acquired a great deal of personality. You then begin to feed from that personality to grow your soul. So that's the point of a personality. 

Everything you go through is meant to drop bits of personality into your aura, but then you're meant to reabsorb it and thus grow a unique soul.  And eventually, your soul and its unique content allow you to return to God and Creation.
